How it works

  1. 1Choose an image with the colors you want to reuse.
  2. 2ImgShrink samples the image locally and groups nearby colors.
  3. 3Copy a single color or the generated CSS variables.

Privacy and limits

  • Color extraction runs locally in the browser.
  • The palette is an approximate grouping, not a brand guideline replacement.
  • Very subtle gradients may be simplified into fewer representative colors.

Palette generation notes

The palette tool samples pixels from the local canvas, groups nearby colors and returns representative colors for quick design exploration.

It is intended for practical inspiration and CSS extraction, not as a replacement for an official brand system.

Common use cases

  • Generating a palette from a product photo
  • Extracting colors from a landing page screenshot
  • Creating CSS variables from an illustration

Color notes

  • The palette simplifies gradients and detailed photos into a small color set.
  • Large neutral backgrounds can dominate the result.
  • Use the color picker when you need one exact pixel value.

Original test sample

  • Upload a colorful screenshot and copy the generated CSS variables.
  • Compare the palette with the source image and remove any color that is only a background artifact.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. ImgShrink processes selected images in your browser and does not upload them to a server.

Can this tool guarantee an exact file size?

No. Target compression gets close when possible, but the final bytes depend on image detail, dimensions, format and browser encoding.

Why is an output format unavailable or different?

The browser controls image decoding and export support. Some browsers may not export AVIF or may flatten unsupported transparency.

Source and compatibility notes

This tool is based on browser image decoding and canvas export behavior reviewed for the current ImgShrink implementation.

Notes
  • No server-side image processing is used.
