How it works

  1. 1Choose a JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF image.
  2. 2Review file type, size, dimensions and metadata status.
  3. 3If EXIF or GPS data is found, use Remove EXIF before sharing.

Privacy and limits

  • The image is read in your browser and is not uploaded.
  • Browser metadata detection is practical, not forensic.
  • Some non-standard metadata may not be recognized.

Metadata detection notes

The viewer reads practical metadata signals from the local file, including JPEG EXIF markers, GPS pointers when recognizable, PNG metadata chunks and WebP EXIF/XMP chunks.

It is built for privacy checks before sharing, not for forensic metadata recovery.

Common use cases

  • Checking whether a phone photo may contain GPS data
  • Reading image dimensions before resizing
  • Inspecting file type and size before compression

Format notes

  • JPEG files are the most likely to contain EXIF camera and GPS metadata.
  • PNG and WebP can contain metadata chunks, but field detail varies.
  • Canvas-exported images from ImgShrink usually have metadata removed.

Original test sample

  • Try a phone photo and check whether EXIF or GPS status appears as found.
  • After using Remove EXIF, upload the cleaned copy here to verify common metadata is no longer detected.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. ImgShrink processes selected images in your browser and does not upload them to a server.

Can this tool guarantee an exact file size?

No. Target compression gets close when possible, but the final bytes depend on image detail, dimensions, format and browser encoding.

Why is an output format unavailable or different?

The browser controls image decoding and export support. Some browsers may not export AVIF or may flatten unsupported transparency.

Source and compatibility notes

This tool is based on browser image decoding and canvas export behavior reviewed for the current ImgShrink implementation.

Notes
  • No server-side image processing is used.
  • Output format support depends on the browser.
  • Animated images and metadata are not treated as guaranteed preserved data.
