How it works

  1. 1Choose an image with possible EXIF or GPS metadata.
  2. 2Keep the original format or select JPG, PNG or WebP output and quality.
  3. 3Download the re-exported copy, then verify it with the metadata viewer if needed.

Privacy and limits

  • Files are processed locally and are not uploaded.
  • Canvas export removes common metadata but is not a forensic erasure tool.
  • Animated images, ICC profiles and unusual metadata may not be preserved.

EXIF removal notes

The tool decodes the source image and exports a new canvas image, which removes common EXIF, GPS and XMP metadata from the downloaded copy.

Because this is a browser export, the result is practical for everyday sharing but should not be described as forensic erasure.

Common use cases

  • Removing GPS data before posting a photo
  • Creating a cleaner image copy for email
  • Stripping camera metadata before publishing website images

Format notes

  • JPG output is practical for photos and uses a white background for transparency.
  • PNG output can preserve sharp graphics but may be larger.
  • Animated images export as a still image.

Original test sample

  • Choose a JPEG phone photo, export a clean JPG, then check it with Image Metadata Viewer.
  • Compare the result visually before replacing the original file.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. ImgShrink processes selected images in your browser and does not upload them to a server.

Can this tool guarantee an exact file size?

No. Target compression gets close when possible, but the final bytes depend on image detail, dimensions, format and browser encoding.

Why is an output format unavailable or different?

The browser controls image decoding and export support. Some browsers may not export AVIF or may flatten unsupported transparency.

Source and compatibility notes

This tool is based on browser image decoding and canvas export behavior reviewed for the current ImgShrink implementation.

Notes
  • No server-side image processing is used.
  • Output format support depends on the browser.
  • Animated images and metadata are not treated as guaranteed preserved data.
